Confocal Microscopy and Frozen Tissue Sectioning

Zeiss LSM780 Confocal Microscope
This microscope is housed within its own room in the cellular imaging and analysis imaging suite. Axio Examiner Z1 microscope equipped with a Zeiss LSM780 scanhead. Laser Excitation: 405nm, 458nm, 488nm, 514nm, 561nm and 633nm. The Argon laser is retrofitted diode control. Detectors: 2xPMTs, 1x Spectral detector (32 Channel GaAsP detector) and Transmitted light detector (T-PMT). The workstation runs Zen confocal software with full 3D rendering, stage position/tilescan modules and spectral unmixing/online fingerprinting using the 32 channel spectral array.
Leica CM1950 Cryostat
The Leica CM1950 Cryostat is a high-performance laboratory instrument designed for precise cryosectioning of biological tissue samples. It features a large freezing stage and additional storage and tool trays to enhance workflow efficiency. The cryostat is widely used in histology and pathology for preparing thin tissue sections, particularly for diagnostic purposes, research, and teaching. Our cryostat is housed within our prep room which also contains an AXIOSTAR light microscope for examination of the tissue sections as they are cut.
For training and use of the any of the equipment listed please create a user account request for our PPMS Stratocore booking system to register with the facility and arrange an induction and training, or contact Dr Rachel Hewitt reh63@cam.ac.uk to guide you through the process.
